Having attained a BSc in Applied Chemistry and a PhD in Polymer Chemistry, I joined BPI because I wanted to use my technical knowledge in both a manufacturing and a commercial setting. BPI offered me that opportunity. Following a broad induction which covered all aspects of the business I became a Special Projects Manager responsible for developing new and innovative products which provided plenty of scope for me to use my technical knowledge. This role also provided the commercial experience needed to progress to my current role of Business Development Manager. My job provides endless opportunities to apply my skills innovatively as I work closely with fresh food suppliers and UK supermarket chains to deliver their continually advancing packaging requirements. I am proud to have helped to develop specialist packaging films that extend the shelf life of fresh produce items in our supermarkets. My work in this area produced film products which enable fruit and vegetables to ‘live and breath’ in the bag in a modified atmosphere.
My job allows me think creatively, work hard, be adaptable to change and, importantly, to be part of an excellent team. BPI has provided me with a range of technical training in addition to sponsoring my MBA.
Eventually I want to move into general management and I am sure that if the last few years are anything to go by, there will be plenty of future opportunities and support to achieve my goal.
