Senior Engineer

Typical job description:

A competent, experienced engineer, who is acting either as a specialist adviser on a particular field of expertise including sytems analyst, advance control specialist, analyser expert etc or perhaps supervising a small group of junior engineers.

Key Processes:

The exact nature of the work will depend on the size of the employing organisation.
However, it will almost certainly involve:

  • Provides technical advice to operating department on an area or group of areas of plant within the refinery, or on a specialist field of expertise including sytems analyst, advance control specialist, analyser expert etc.
  • Carries out technical coaching and mentoring of others in same discipline, providing best practice advice and guidance.
  • Undertakes projects either individually or as leader of a small task and finish team of seconded engineers.
  • Has a working knowledge of other disciplines.
  • Develops and implements plans up to a year ahead; is responsible for functional planning and budgeting.

Entry Level:

- Degree in an Engineering discipline
- Extensive experience in plant operation.
- A technical specialist on a particular topic including sytems analyst, advance control specialist, analyser expert etc

Functional Skills – IT Level 2

Competencies:

  • Good communication skills
  • Able to read and understand piping and instrumentation drawings and other engineering documents
  • Project management skills
  • Prepare for planned and unplanned maintenance activities
  • Problem solving

Knowledge needed for the role:

  • Has a complete understanding of the business and its impact on impact on local, national and international markets
  • Health and Safety issues and Codes of practice relevant to the industry
  • COSHH and COMAH Regs
  • Risk Assessments

Pay and conditions:

Salaries are in the range £50,000 to £75,000 plus other allowances. Normal daywork hours and subject to weekend and public holiday on call duties.
