Operations Support Worker

Key Processes:
The exact nature of the work will depend on the size of the employing organisation.
However, it will almost certainly involve:
- Assists in the operation of the plant and supporting auxiliaries
- Assisting in the application of the Safety Rules in the release and return of plant for maintenance
- Preparing plant for Start-up / shut-down
- Carrying out Plant checks and Asset care inspections, reporting defects as required
- Carrying out routine testing and recording of information
- Diagnosing plant problems and initiating rectification works
Entry Level:
- 4 GCSE grades A-C (including English and Maths) or Standard grades - credit or Level 2 equivalent
- Experience of working in a production environment

Industry Standard:
- S/NVQ 2 in Chemical, Pharmaceutical and Petrochemical Operations or Performing Engineering Operations or Performing Manufacturing Operations
- IOSH Working Safely Course
- City and Guilds Level 2 in Process Technology
Competencies:
- Good degree of self-motivation and direction
- Effective communication skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of team and prioritise work load
- Basic IT and administrative skills
- Proven flexibility and adaptability
- Proven ability to produce quality work
- Flexibility to actively support temporary changes in working patterns through shift changes
- Classified Person on the national register of Radiation Classified Workers
Knowledge needed for the role:
- Technical and plant knowledge at the appropriate level
- Understanding of nuclear materials and hazards
- Basic Health & Safety
- Manual lifting techniques
Pay and conditions:
Salaries are in the range of £12,000 to £20,000 per year depending on acquired skills, disciplines and working schedule.
Between 35 and 40 hours per week. Engineers and assistants often work shifts and overtime for which an extra payment is made. The industry has an excellent safety record and culture
