Operations Manager

Typical job description:

Is responsible for all refinery operations. Much of the work involves full operational control over what happens at the refinery including operations, output, personnel and often logistics and other commercial activity including production planning targets.

Key Processes:

The exact nature of the work will depend on the size of the employing organisation.
However, it will almost certainly involve:

  • Responsible for all production activites for the whole refinery
  • Strategic management responsibility for refinery production staff
  • Responsible for the development of the refinery production strategy
  • Responsible for ensuring that production of refinery products meets expected targets
  • Is part of the refinery senior management team

Entry Level:

- Degree in Chemistry (or related discipline)
- Chartered Status or equivalent
- Extensive experience in plant operations

Knowledge needed for the role:

  • Has a complete understanding of the business and its impact on impact on local, national and international markets
  • Thorough and comprehensive knowledge of refinery processes
  • Health and Safety issues and Codes of practice relevant to the industry including COSHH and COMAH Regs
  • Has a complete understanding of strategic maintenance planning and turnaround activities

Pay and conditions:

Salaries are in the range £60,000 to £80,000 plus other allowances. Normal daywork hours and subject to weekend and public holiday on call duties.
