The exact nature of the work will depend on the size of the employing organisation.
However, it will almost certainly involve:
- Responsible for all maintenance activities for the whole refinery
- Strategic management responsibility for refinery engineering staff
- Responsible for the development of the refinery maintenance strategy
- Responsible for ensuring that maintenance resources provide a productive, efficient and cost effective execution of maintenance schedules across work area
- Is part of the refinery senior management team
Entry Level:
Degree in Mechanical or Instrument/Electrical Engineering (or other relevant engineering discipline)
Chartered Engineer
Extensive experience in refinery plant maintenance

Knowledge needed for the role:
- Has a complete understanding of the business and its impact on impact on local, national and international markets
- Thorough and comprehensive knowledge of refinery processes
- Health and Safety issues and Codes of practice relevant to the industry including COSHH and COMAH Regs
- Has a complete understanding of strategic maintenance planning and turnaround activities
Pay and conditions:
Salaries are in the range £60,000 to £80,000 plus other allowances. Normal daywork hours and subject to weekend and public holiday on call duties.
