Area Superintendent

Typical job description:

Is responsible for the safe, efficient and effective operation of a group of process pants or a specified area of the refinery.

Key Processes:

The exact nature of the work will depend on the size of the employing organisation.
However, it will almost certainly involve:

  • The management of production schedules in respect of intermediate and finished products. May be responsible for optimisation of commercial decisions on plant operations.
  • Accountable for the safety of all personnel working within or visiting their area
  • Liaise with maintenance group in relation short and long term planning for the inspection and maintenance of process units
  • Liaise with maintenance department and expedition of plant and repairs
  • The safe & efficient running of refinery production units and the optimisation of plant utilisation
  • Would have input to the training and development of production staff within their designated areas, together with the shift superintendent

Entry Level:

- Degree in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry (or related discipline)
- Chartered status
- OR Has extensive experience in practical plant operations

Knowledge needed for the role:

  • Has a complete understanding of the business and its impact on impact on local, national and international markets
  • Thorough and comprehensive knowledge of refinery processes
  • Health and Safety issues and Codes of practice relevant to the industry including COSHH and COMAH Regs
  • Risk Assessments

Pay and conditions:

Salaries are in the range £50,000 to £75,000 plus other allowances. Normal daywork hours and subject to weekend and public holiday on call duties.
