Shift Superintendent

Typical job description:

Is responsible for the safe, efficient and effective operation of the refinery outwith daywork hours.

Key Processes:

The exact nature of the work will depend on the size of the employing organisation.
However, it will almost certainly involve:

  • Responsible for the safe and efficient operations of the refinery including utilities and oil movement and storage.
  • Represents the refinery manager during the “silent hours

Entry Level:

- Extensive refinery experience and technical competence in their discipline.
- HNC in Chemical Engineering
- N/SVQ Level 3 in Refinery Field Operations or Refinery Control Room Operations or equivalent

- Degree in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry (or related discipline)
- N/SVQ Level 3 in Refinery Field Operations or Refinery Control Room Operations or equivalent
- Functional Skills – IT Level 2

Knowledge needed for the role:

  • Has a complete understanding of the business and its impact on impact on local, national and international markets
  • Health and Safety issues and Codes of practice relevant to the industry
  • COSHH and COMAH Regs
  • Risk Assessments

Pay and conditions:

Salaries are in the range £30,000 to £45,000 plus shift and other allowances.

Shift Superintendents usually work a continuous shift cycle averaging out at 37.5 hours a week.

Shift patterns vary between 8 and 12 hrs.
