Shift Team Leader
Typical job description:
The first line of operations supervision. Is in charge of a team of process operators in an assigned area including main refinery units, groups of units, offsites, tankage & jetty operations.
Key Processes:
The exact nature of the work will depend on the size of the employing organisation.
However, it will almost certainly involve:
- Being the operational leader of a team(s) of operators and ensures the safe and efficient operation of all plant and ancillary equipment on the process unit or group of units.
- Supervises the team(s) in all aspects of people management.
- Acts as leader/coach to the operations team(s).
- Ensures that the training of operating personnel allocated to their shift is such as to enable each person to be fully competent in their appropriate role.
- Responsibile for all personnel working on or visiting the process unit or group of units.
- Ensures compliance with all site and legislative procedures.
Entry Level:
- A minimum of 3 GCSEs OR 3 Standard grades-credit (English, Maths and a science subject).
- S/NVQ L3 Refinery Field Operations or Refinery Control Room Operations.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of the related outside and panel job roles

Knowledge needed for the role:
- Has an understanding of the business and its impact on impact on local, national and international markets

Pay and conditions:
Salaries are in the range £25,000 to £38,000 plus shift and other allowances.
Shift Team Leaders usually work a continuous shift cycle averaging out at 37.5 hours a week. Shift patterns vary between 8 and 12 hrs.
