Asset Planner

Typical job description:

An experienced maintenance technician, who works on refinery units or groups of units responsible for the planning of routine and non routine maintenance activities. Supports the assurance processes for the cost effective control of approved maintenance expenditure and contractor interface.

Key Processes:

The exact nature of the work will depend on the size of the employing organisation.
However, it will almost certainly involve:

  • Optimises refinery wide maintenance activity to support plant availability to the right time by provision and control of maintenance plan, routine budget and resource allocation
  • Responsible for ensuring full work packs are available for all scheduled work
  • Monitors and reports on the performance on contractors and maintenance activity (i.e. Technicians)
  • Supports the assurance processes for the cost effective control of approved maintenance expenditure
  • May be responsible for final sign off of all contractor day-work claims

Entry Level:

- HNC in Mechanical, Instrument or Electrical Engineering or related discipline
- S/NVQ L3 in Mechanical or Instrument/Electrical Engineering
- Has extensive experience in plant maintenance

- S/NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical, Instrument or Electrical Engineering or related discipline
- Functional Skills – IT Level 2

Competencies:

  • Good communication skills
  • Able to read and understand piping and instrumentation drawings and other engineering documents
  • Project management skills
  • Prepare for planned and unplanned maintenance activities
  • Problem solving

Knowledge needed for the role:

  • Health and Safety issues and Codes of practice relevant to the industry
  • Health and Safety issues and Codes of practice relevant to the industry
  • Legislation including Health & Safety at Work Act, Electrical Regs, Vessel Inspection Regs etc.
  • Risk Assessments

Pay and conditions:

Salaries are in the range £22,000 to £30,000. Normal daywork hours.
