Area maintenence Supervisor
Typical job description:
Key Processes:
The exact nature of the work will depend on the size of the employing organisation.
However, it will almost certainly involve:
- Controls and co-ordinates all maintenance and minor construction activities carried out by refinery and/or contract personnel in defined area of refinery.
- Ensures the quality of the maintenance work in area, and the necessary standards of housekeeping and safe working practice is maintained.
- Liaises closely with the corresponding Area Superintendent in operations to match work priorities to process requirements on both day-to-day and longer term basis.
- Plans and organises the workload and manpower in area, and produces forecast of longer term requirements.
- First line manager for Maintenance Technicians
- Develops and controls the budget for area of responsibility.
- Assists planners in developing turnaround and shutdown plans.
- Liaises with the refinery’s specialist engineers on particular equipment problems
Entry Level:
- A minimum of 3 GCSEs OR 3 Standard Grades - Credit (English, Maths and a science or technical subject).
- Apprenticeship Completion Certificate in Maintenance Engineering including a Level 3 Technical certificate and an S/NVQ specified in the apprenticeship framework

Industry Standard:
- HNC in Mechanical, Instrument or Electrical Engineering or related subject
- S/NVQ Level 3 an Engineering discipline
- Functional Skills – IT Level 2
Competencies:
- Good communication skills
- Management and leadership skills
- Able to read and understand piping and instrumentation drawings and other engineering documents including permits to work
- Problem solving
Knowledge needed for the role:
- Health and Safety issues and Codes of practice relevant to the industry
- Legislation including Health & Safety at Work Act, Electrical Regs, Vessel Inspection Regs etc.
- Risk Assessments
Pay and conditions:
Salaries are in the range £22000 to £30000.Normal daytime hours subject to overtime.
