Area maintenence Supervisor

Typical job description:

An experienced maintenance technician, who works on refinery units or groups of units responsible for the routine and non routine maintenance activities. Ensures the quality of the maintenance work in area, and the necessary standards of housekeeping and safe working practice are maintained.  Manages contractor interface.

Key Processes:

The exact nature of the work will depend on the size of the employing organisation.
However, it will almost certainly involve:

  • Controls and co-ordinates all maintenance and minor construction activities carried out by refinery and/or contract personnel in defined area of refinery.
  • Ensures the quality of the maintenance work in area, and the necessary standards of housekeeping and safe working practice is maintained.
  • Liaises closely with the corresponding Area Superintendent in operations to match work priorities to process requirements on both day-to-day and longer term basis.
  • Plans and organises the workload and manpower in area, and produces forecast of longer term requirements.
  • First line manager for Maintenance Technicians
  • Develops and controls the budget for area of responsibility.
  • Assists planners in developing turnaround and shutdown plans.
  • Liaises with the refinery’s specialist engineers on particular equipment problems

Entry Level:

- A minimum of 3 GCSEs OR 3 Standard Grades - Credit (English, Maths and a science or technical subject).
- Apprenticeship Completion Certificate in Maintenance Engineering including a Level 3 Technical certificate and an S/NVQ specified in the apprenticeship framework

Industry Standard:

- HNC in Mechanical, Instrument or Electrical Engineering or related subject
- S/NVQ Level 3 an Engineering discipline
- Functional Skills – IT Level 2

Competencies:

  • Good communication skills
  • Management and leadership skills
  • Able to read and understand piping and instrumentation drawings and other engineering documents including permits to work
  • Problem solving

Knowledge needed for the role:

  • Health and Safety issues and Codes of practice relevant to the industry
  • Legislation including Health & Safety at Work Act, Electrical Regs, Vessel Inspection Regs etc.
  • Risk Assessments

Pay and conditions:

Salaries are in the range £22000 to £30000.Normal daytime hours subject to overtime.
