Laboratory Supervisor

Typical job description:

Responsible for ensuring all sampling and testing activities including crude oil,intermediate & final products, outfall, effluent & water, stack emmissions and air quality are carried out in accordance with company procedures.

Key Processes:

The exact nature of the work will depend on the size of the employing organisation.
However, it will almost certainly involve:

  • Manages, leads and co-ordinates laboratory team
  • Responsible for all laboratory plant, equipment and activities including fiscal, legislative and investigative requirements.
  • Liaises with regulatory bodies including HSE, EA/SEPA, HMRC
  • Ensures sufficient supply, maintenance and calibration of laboratory plant and equipment.
  • Liaises with internal departments and external bodies including product distributors.
  • Responsible for maintaining a good housekeeping regime
  • May work shifts

Entry Level:

- HNC in Chemistry or Applied Science
- S/NVQ L2 Laboratory and Associated Technical Activities

- S/NVQ Level 3 in Laboratory and Associated Technical Activities
- Functional Skills – IT Level 2

Competencies:

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of all fuels testing procedures
  • Management and leadership skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Team player and act as “Leader as Coach

Knowledge needed for the role:

  • Health and Safety issues and Codes of practice relevant to the industry
  • Legislation including Health & Safety at Work Act and HMR&C Regulations, Bills of Laden etc.
  • Risk Assessments

Pay and conditions:

Salaries are in the range £18000 to £28000 plus allowances. Normal daytime hours subject to overtime working.
